Programs - Outreach
VSAO supports a network of Service Divisions or local committees accredited to use the VSA arts name to present programming. With funding from VSAO, the Service Divisions present festivals, theatrical productions, art classes for persons with disabilities, camps, and other awareness activities.Avenue to the Arts is a quarterly newsletter published by VSAO to spotlight activities and information in a traditional format.
The Young Soloists adjudication and event are VSAO programs which select youth and/or young adults with disabilities who excel in the instrumental or vocal arts and showcases them at a evening, fundraising affair. The Young Soloists also perform at other events throughout the year such as the AEO opening and honorees receptions. To hear an excerpt from a young soloist, click here. (Windows Media File, 1.07 MB)
VSA arts of Ohio annually recognizes artists with disabilities who have won awards and persons who have demonstrated leadership and dedication on behalf of the organization and artists with disabilities, at a celebration in their honor.
VSAO serves as the liaison to the home office, in Washington, DC, for international initiatives such as the Young Playwrights, Journey to Discovery, and the 2004 International Festival which featured 6 individual artists or performing groups representing Ohio.
Conference presentations and attendance are key activities for VSA arts of Ohio networking and recognition.
Of special note is VSAO’s presence at the Special Olympics Tent City each year, providing hands-on opportunities for the Olympians to create artwork while not competing.
